The trend lines below show the Twitter followers for the three Republican candidates for governor in California: Meg Whitman (@Whitman2010), Steve Poizner (@StevePoizner) and Tom Campbell (@TalktoTom).
One account is obviously being artificially inflated to give the impression Whitman has an organic surge of online support. Twitter has moved to close pay-for-followers schemes because such entities promote “spamming.”
